Amphibians for 20 gal?

Hello, i just recently cleaned out my 20 gallon tank and I was very interested in getting some reptiles or amphibians. just wondering about your preferences on the subject, because to be honest, i have no experience with the subject of reptiles and amphibians.

My budget is not that of a king and my experience isn't the greatest.

I thought that newts were fairly happy in smaller tanks, but a 20gallon would be as small as I would feel comfy with. You could probably have a few.

Dart frogs would work, too!

I'll be interested in seeing what others suggest too!

i'm a frog guy, so of course i'm gonna say put frogs in it!! or better yet, a paludarium of some sort!!

There are so many great beginner herps. You can decide what environment you want to maintain and build, and let that dictate what herps you want to look into.

Rainforest terrarium: anoles, grass lizards, etc are a great choice for beginners.

Rainforest vivarium: green tree frog, whites tree frog, red spotted newts, fire bellied toad, FB newt, paddle tail newt,

Desert: maybe a leopard gecko (maybe a larger footprint would be better)

Good luck and feel free to bounce questions back and forth once you get your species picked out!

A cast of vampire crabs and a group of millipedes. I guess they aren't amphibians or reptiles though.

You will probably have the best luck with species that are native to where you live. and herps that only need a water bowl will be easier than a water feature.
--at least to start
so
common toad
tiger salamander
grey tree frogs (a favorite)
leopard frog
wood frog

there is really no advantage in keeping exotic species if your budget is tight and experience low. even the common toad can be a great source of entertainment and delight in a simple cage. Make it a fancy cage with live plants and you will learn a ton and enjoy the tank more.
