In June I was out shopping with the wife and kids one day when I came across a huge glass bowl. Of course I did what any grown man would and put it over my head to show my son. For $26 I got excited, started running around wearing it while we searched for my wife. Never really wanted a fish tank, but I had never seen a bowl like this and for the price, well I had to get it. Over the weekend we filled it up with some water and had a little fun taking pictures.

OMG, Love the Family pictures. If I saw that vase, I too would have bought it.

Whats the quality of the glass? Thick or thin? Some of the nicer jumbo bowls are thin spun/blown glass and are fragile to the touch.

Last week I did a complete substrate change and added 20lbs Eco-Complete black.

Used painted toothpicks and added them to the battleship as the main cannons. Can you believe it didn’t come with cannons! Also lost a few snails and shrimp from getting stuck inside so I had to putty up every hole and hiding place they could get into.

This picture makes my wife look like a little girl, haha she is 34.

As of last week this is how it looks.

FRONT, this is the view from my computer desk.

BACK, this is where my son's Lego section is, we have two huge lego castles on either side. It is also the right next to our main bed, so this is what we see sleeping.

We now have two of them! Our first one had a few imperceptions in the glass and the top cut was not level. A few weeks later I found another at our local thrift store (Ross) and it was much cleaner with a perfect lip, so when I did the gravel swap I also changed bowls. I’m currently using the old one as my quarantine/hospital tank and will probably convert it over to breed shrimp. I just measured it for you and they are about 5mm thick and are crystal clear.

Awesome bowl, I wish I had a find like that...

For starting out not wanting a fishtank, you sure got into it deep with this bowl! I really like it, and great job with the custom light and keeping all the equipment out of the way, so the tank has a really clean look.

Then again, that fish would probably bite on a cigarette butt.

Thanks, never thought I was going to get that deep into it. I was planning of something low tech with just plants a few fish. Then I started reading forums…….and well, you know what happens from there. I’ll get some pictures of the equipment and setup posted sometime this week.

I made a quick reference card for the API Masters Test Kit and a test parameter journal sheet. They are printable sized for anyone who needs them.
