Help! Need to keep HC alive out of the tank for a while
I'm starting up a little 3 gallon nano tank in my office at work. Everything was scheduled to be here early-mid week so I ordered some HC last week which showed up on Monday. The light and tank are here, but the substrate and rocks are caught up in shipping and I'm guessing won't be here until early next week.
I plan on doing a dry start with the HC, but need to keep it happy until next week. I puffed some breath into the 1/2 size ziplock and closed it. The HC is very wet right now. I just set the baggy in the bottom of my tank and turned the light on. Will running the light for 8 hours a day and puffing new air in each day keep this stuff happy until the rest shows up? It seems it's no different than the DSM other than there is no soil in there yet.

Should be okay the way you describe for a few days. Be sure to keep it moistened with fresh water every day as well.

should be no problem. i placed a wet towel on the bottom of a tub and saran wrapped the top and my hc stayed alive for over 2 weeks.

Or you can start an emersed set-up with potting soil.
