cloudy water

What causes cloudy water? My tank was crystal clear and became murky overnight. It's still cycling and a 50% water change has not alleviated the murkiness problem.

If it is still cycling, I would suspect the increase in cloudiness would be due to a bacterial bloom. It will go away on its own with time.

something to try:

take a close look at the water surface - are there any thin coating of any kind? i had cloudy waters before and i notice there are thin thin coating at the surface of the water. i scoop the coating out, and the next day the water becomes clear again.
