Taming the jungle
I am currently working on this planted tank, and while being a cheapskate, may have gone a bit overboard on plants. I bought a plant package on Ebay and picked up a ROAK and a few things from the for sale forum. I also ran into a couple of petsmart "clearance" deals when their stock was getting old. I don't even know what many of my current plants are called, but they are growing pretty well. There is currently some algae on the glass, but the baby plecos are hard at work.
I am open to suggestions, especially on fertilizers and inexpensive lighting.
Tank: 40g long
Filtration: Fluval Aquaclear 70 w 2 sponges to allow cleaning and 1 sack o noodles
CO2: Pressurized via paintball tank with modified regulator from Lowes
Lighting: dual t5ho daylight bulbs (Homedepot) with no reflector
Fertilization: current just some stump remover every other day or so
Circulation: Maxi-Jet 400 in powerhead mode (also used to disolve the CO2)
Other: various driftwood and grapewood chunks, there is a picture type background, but it included many of the same plants as the tank. You can really only see it in the upper middle of the picture.
[s]Cabomba[/s] Grew too fast for my tank
Pennywort - also grows fast, but with drastic pruning looks pretty good
[s]Weeping (maybe willow) moss[/s] this stuff wasn't in good shape when I bought it and seems to have died
Couple other swords
[s]Red Root Floaters[/s] covered tank too fast
[s]Dwarf Water Lettuce[/s] covered tank too fast
[s]Amazon Frogbit[/s] covered tank too fast
Other things I don't have names for
13 blood fin tetras
[s]1 Peacock Gudgeon[/s] died of loneliness
1 Adult Bristlenose Pleco
[s]6[/s]10 Juvenile Bristlenose Plecos
~3 Assassin Snails
Some Pond Snails
PH (with co2):7.4
PH (without co2): 8.3
To do list:
Fertilizer plan (probably EI)
Better lighting (reflector vs switch to LED)
Are cherry shrimp an option?
