I need HOB plant baskets for my aquarium. Advice?

Hey folks!

I have been trying to find a small basket of some sort that I can hang on the back of my aquarium of suction cup to the back wall of my aquarium so that I can grow some plants.

I know I could probably buy some plastic mesh, and make some myself, but I thought that maybe someone here would know where I could buy some.

I went to the dollar store and bought a few shower caddies. then took a wire coat hanger to cut/bent to hang the caddies from the edge of the tank. I tried suction cups for a while but they kept losing suction and would sink into the tank, with that said I don't recommend suction cups. I lined the inside of the caddie with mess laundry bags. place substrate, plants and done.

Hi, I'm fairly new to planting in tanks and am working on a ripatium tank. I ordered some planters and rafts from ripariumsupply.com --They work great, and are easy to set up, plant ect.

+1, Stick to a suction cup alternative, such as coat wire or something that hangs onto tank's edge, Im considering using black hair net that's clipped to tank edges.

I just don't want to have floating suction planters upon returning from a vacation.

I also purchased some of the hanging planters and they are great, but I also think that they would be greatly improved with a coated magnet rather than the suction cups. Maybe hydrophyte has some of those as well.

I attached two bamboo stakes to either end of a "flower flat" tray to make a planter for my 20 gallon. It's basically a long, low black plastic basket that annual flowers are sold in. I just set the basket in the tank and it is supported by the bamboo stakes and I put plants (syngonium, philodendron, peace lily, pothos) in the little openings of the plastic. Look great, plants do well with their roots in open water and their leaves in the air, only problem is the basket does take up the entire tank. But wouldn't in a larger system.

If I can interject, the suction cups that are supplied with the Riparium Supply planters are made of a thick and flexible plastic and they hold much better than the ones used for most kinds of aquarium equipment; they really do. So long as you keep the glass and the suction cup pretty clean and keep plant roots out of the way they will almost never fail. These suction cups last a lot longer too. I have observed them still holding well after more than two years.

I mean.. i use shower caddies, but the biggest thing is if youre going to use the non riparium supply ones, you need to get hold of expanded clay pellets. Other beddings are going to be too heavy and fall. or you can do like me and do suction up AND wire hangers. Im just a cheapskate though heh..so...
