Rebuild 20L River Rocks

b4 rebuild..

It was ok, but things were looking just a little too cramped for me....especially that fake wood background was taking up way too much space.

At first I was thinking of just getting a bigger used tank, but my wife probably wouldn't be too happy. Then I was thinking about just dirting the whole tank so I didn't have to keep pots in there...but finally after lots and lots of reading and browsing tank journals..I decided on what I wanted to try.

There were so many beautiful tanks, but some of my favorites tanks were the ones with river rocks and sand.

So I drove down to the river picked up a bucket full of rocks then hit the local hardware store.

and after lots of measuring, cutting, and gluing

just finished the riparium/canopy so I still have lots of work to do.

The green shelf like thingy is just temporary till I can think of something better.

I use to run my diy co2 straight in to the spray bar, but now that hole makes a nice little fountain that makes a little splash that keeps the plants moist.

A hitchhiker from my 10g pond on my balcony I think.. probably a Medaka. He was swimming around the top for a few days so I felt sorry for him and put him in fry net.

I was finally able to find an electronics shop that carries DIY t5 lighting. It probably doesn't direct the light downwards as well as the cfls did, but its a nice even spread now. Also it's way easier to work with too.

Edit: Think just 1x21w bulb is enough for my emersed plants? Mostly ferns and Anubis.

Picked up more suction cups from the 100yen store today, so I was able to get rid of the plastic green shelf and suction cup the drift wood directly to the tank.

Its made out of the cheapest things I could find. The back and sides are made out of something that looks like plastic cardboard and the front and top are PET sheets. All of it sits tightly on the inner lip of the top rim.

Nice tank. I like all the small hiding places would be great, I think for some CPO's. What is the square looking object with three openings on the right hand side.

Thanks! That square thing in the corner is just a ceramic brick like ornament I bought from the LFS. The fish love it, great hiding place.

I had a 4 day weekend so I've had lots of time to work on the tank. Added some driftwood and another T5 buld.
