HF's 40GB now with live plants! [Updated weekly w/ pix!!]

So I will try and keep a good updating schedule, but I cannot make any promises with work and kiddies.

Anyways!

I had gotten this 40gb to house some Bolivian Rams then African Malawi's and now Bolivians again. And this time I will be doing nothing but live plants.

Hopes are to learn more about planted tanks, and then get more and more plants, and possibly MAYBE start to add CO2 later on. Maybe.

My equipment:
Lighting - Odysea* 39W x3 + LED moonlight and Timer.
Filtration - Aqueon Quiteflow 30 and a Fluval C3
Substrate - Petco black sand
Heating - Aqueon 150W
Circulation - Marineland Maxijet 600

Decoration:
Rock - Pulled from local wash
Driftwood - Malaysian, from LFS

Flora/Plants:
Anubias Species - 2
Crypt Species - 3
Moss Ball - 1
Unknown - 1

Dosing:
Seachem Flourish - Weekly*
API Root tabs - Monthly*

Inhabitants:
Bolivian Rams - 6 + 2 smaller(.5-.75")
Otto - 1

I am still not sure about the clay pots... I think I may get rid of them.

If you are not running co2 that is probably too much light. I have 2 39 watts over my 40b and I ran out of co2 and algae was all over in a matter of a few days. Might be different for you though.

Sorry should have said I am only running one 6500k During the day, and run a 6500k + 10000k during photos and parties/events.

So, I was not happy with the black sand... it was great for my Africans... but not a planted tank with Bolivians who's main colors are USUALLY light.

So, after a "transplant" of substrates, I switched back to my old pool filter sand. VERY cloudy... lol

Tank is cloudy, but it looks SO much better, and the BR's(Bolivian Rams) were instantly lighter, and more lively, even with the cloudy water.

I know have found that I have a slight problem.. I have from what I can see... is 4 males.. and 2 females.. so yeah.

I have seen that one of the males is now in his "Alpha Male" coloring/suit and he is claiming his territory like crazy. Though now, it seems most of them have staked their territory, well atleast two of them for sure. The females got some decisions.. lol

I just noticed my filter cover is very dirty.. lol I am tall so I never see that thing in the back! ha

Nice tank man! We got the same tank, same powerhead and same brand lighting AND we both have white sand although the black looked pretty good too! Ill be watching this thread.
