Mysterious fish fry

Feeding and observing my Crystal Red Shrimp last night then suddenly realized that I had at least five very small fish, just hatched from eggs.

Thing is, the only wildlife that lives in this tank is shrimp and snails and some plants. I received some moss as well as some "floaters" from a couple RAOK packages recently. The plants didn't go through a quarantine, I just put them in the tank when their packages reached tank temperature.

This could be very fun! Can you find the fish?

It's a very small fish that moves very fast... and it's not a guppy.

i would contact the person that you got the plants from and ask them what it could be

now i dont know anything about killifish, but im pretty sure that their eggs have pretty long incubations, and can survive in small quantities of water for that period and can be shipped (there is an aquabid section for their eggs), so it could have been killies' eggs on the plants that then hatched in your tank.

I'm hoping for something cool and ultra exotic, but thinking they'll turn out to be Zebra Danio. Either way, I'll post pictures as they grow.

They're eating First Bites like little piggies right now.

Do you get the feeling that fish sometimes have a way of breeding and surviving in spite of all we do. So many of us think it is BECAUSE of what we do!

...and so everyone knows...

I got in contact with one of my Crystal Shrimp suppliers. Told him the good news that one of my Crystals gave "birth" today (a first for me!), and told him about the mysterious fish that were born a couple days back.

He had news too. He had unexpected fish fry as well...

We put 2 and 2 together. He sends Java moss with his shrimp, the moss comes from a separate tank, in it are Celestial Pearl Danios. He didn't know that the CPD's had mated.

We both do now!

I'm very pleased to say the least!

Very, stunningly pretty!

I have some in one of my other tanks... shame that the adults spend so much time hiding behind the plants, the fry swim right out in the open!

Any batch of eggs hatched overnight... at least 10 fishes now!
