10G CRS tank ran crazy

So my 10 gallon tank of CRS SS-SSS went haywire while I was at work.... Lost about 120 babies and 30-40 adults. Hurts when 70% were SSS probably close to a 1200 hit on shrimp. Pulled the rest when I got home and moved them in to a hospital tank. Last time I use a 10 gallon, second time I have had a 10 gallon flash crazy on me for no real reason... PH jumped to 7.8 and Nitrite jumped to 40PPM.. No real reason why..... Time to make my 10g a hospital tank for shrimp and cycle it. Then use the 15 hospitial tank a home for my CRS

I have no clue, all my tanks are in a rack 2 tanks next to it not affected. So it is not like a airborn thing got in the tank..... I think the substrate stuff buffering and let loose, but it was UP Aqua shrimp sand ontop of MGOCPS. It had only been in 8 months maybe. I am going to cycle with Amazonia new.

Yeah stuff happens I guess..... I was not as mad as when I got a huge bacterial infection in my OEBT tank... They will bounce back!

I assume you mean the Nitrate jumped and not Nitrite?

No nitrite jumped... I know that is why I am so up in the arms about it. Oh well they will get a bigger tank now

I don't think the issue has much to do with the size of the tank but the stuff you're using in the tank.

For a nitrite spike that massive, you'd have to have a crazy problem going on and it's most likely a result of using MGOCPS. What was the ammonia source? Was it something tapped in the potting soil? That's my hunch.

Ohh I never give up! You know if the ammonia spike happened it happened real quick... Like between 6am and 11:30.... When I tested the tank no ammonia was showing...... I do feel it has something to do with the MGOPS.... But I do not know yet.... Everything seemed fine tank been going good for a year.... With a hicup once or twice....

I left for work and came back at 11:30 to drip shrimp 10 snow whites and a Blue bolt for my TB tank....
