Fluval Ebi Filter, (Fluval Nano) Can I add biomax?

I got a Fluval Ebi few days ago, and am trying to cycle it quickest as possible.

My bf gave me some of his plants from his tank and I have been putting fish food in every 11 hours, but he does have biomax nodes in his fluval U3 which would have much more bacteria on + he has spares he could give me but..

would they be ok to add to the Fluval Nano filter? I noticed it has a section with no media in, and it says this is for carbon media if you wish to choose, so instead could I just stick biomax nodes inside? would I need a net bag or could I just stick as much as I can fit in with out the flow going down to much.. what are your thoughts? I don't want to get a better filter just yet, just want to cycle my tank quickly ... thanks for any help on this.. and obviously in the long term if I can keep biomax in the separate chamber to help it or even purchase another sponge.

I tossed a handful of the ceramic rings in mine with no ill effects. It is half full of the rings, then a sponge on top of that.
