Breeder Box or Net?

Im looking to purchase a breeder box or net for selective breeding and raising shrimp fry.

Would a net or breeder box work better? It seems that the net would be better because it has more flow and would have more consistent parameters. On the other hand, a box has its strong points too, im just a little worried about ammonia or whatever increasing int he box. I was planning on getting the Marina box M/L and elite Mini pump to filter it.

Can anyone chime in with their experience of using boxes/nets? would putting a berried female in these containers stressed them out? I already read some previous threads about it but I just would like a bit more feedback before i make my purchase

I have personally never used one before but the HOB breeders are pretty popular around here.

Are you trying to use a breeder box for selective breeding?

^ Yes, I have 2 CRS males that are extremely white with great coloration. The females a little less "wow" but I would love to get these genetics up. Seems like the box would be a way to go, but how long can i keep these shrimp in there? would the M be sufficient or do I need an L?

I use both. Prefer the net as I don't have to run any extra equipment that the breeder box would like an air pump and lighting. Shrimp escape all the time back into the tank and it's not foolproof. The net wins by simplicity and sharing the same tank . Can be setup instantly.

And I prefer breeder box. It is personal preference. I get a larger breeder box a finnex led light and a Hagen elite mini pump instead of using air driven. Gets flow up and better circulation. Use the little gate they provide and you should be good

I use both and prefer the external breeder box. Primarily because it's easier to view shrimp through clear plastic outside the tank.

When I use internal nets, though, I tend to make them out of pantyhose so they're easy to close completely up without any escapees.

why not just get a 3 gallon and a small filter to keep the babies in?

Because stability is everything (esp with shrimplets and sensitive shrimp like BKK) and more water means greater stability. Sharing conditions with your main tank makes keeping them healthy and happy far easier.

Don't use a breeder box to raise fry, you will not have a good time. They are fine for selective breeding though.

I would use a type that sits inside of the aquarium though, the hang on tank external ones look cool and seem like a good idea, but after using them for a long time, the vibration and water flow upset shrimp that are inside of them, and the temperature never stabilizes. That said, a male and female in there will berry, just move them back into the aquarium afterward.

I've never had a problem with flow, temperature or vibration. Have been perfect for raising all kinds of shrimplets.
