Question about stoping plants from spreading...

I am imagining what I would like to do in some of my tanks, and I am curious, if I had a good carpet plant going, and did not want it to spread, is there an easy way to contain it?

I have plastic strips in the substrate. It's not a force field, but it does help a lot.

Try cutting the little pots some plants come in into strips and use as a root barrier, be sure to overlap edges of rocks, glass, etc. a good inch or so.

Those were both ideas I had, just was not sure how effective it would be. I am looking at making a "path" of sorts with standard aquarium gravel with a carpet surrounding it. I was thinking "Well, I know how I would do this above water, but not so sure below" LOL
