Pretty much. I just trim it, remove the bottom inch or two of leaves, and stick it back in the gravel.

Yes, but replant the tops. If you leave the bottoms in the ground, they should sprout new shoots. I like to cut them just above a side shoot and replant the top and leave the remainder of the stem with the side shoot. I've noticed with this plant in particular that sometimes if I leave just a plain stem in the substrate, that it won't always send off side shoots like some other stem plants do.
