I think sharks are a deeply misunderstood animal.. they have been around much longer than many other speices and have evolved along the way. They are quite intelligent and much of the bad rep they have is due to Humans being where they shouldn't be on displaying activity of their natural prey.

we only down grade animal intelligence so we don't feel bad about eating them.

I think this is true.

Many Polynesian legends feature sharks, and some Hawai'ian mythology refers to sharks as the ancestors.

Very different from previous cultures where the hunted or domesticated animal was thanked for its contribution to the larger community, not just viewed as a subjugated creature to be used.

Dolphins certainly have shown numerous instances of aiding human beings.

Why not sharks, which are also intelligent?

I wasn't really a fan either. I saw there's a movie coming up though, which might be pretty good. Condensed story and some cool visuals.

And not every shark does this!

I think manatees are probably the least violent sea creature, but maybe they have thugs in their population too!

I too think it is a coincednce. I am sure sharks are plenty smart but I do not know how it would deduct that the man in the raft needed to get to the big boat.

It would be awesome if I was wrong though.
