I bought mine used a few weeks ago and I LOVE it
It was noisy at first, took the impeller apart, cleaned it and no problems since. And mine came with 5/8" ID hoses.
Hope this helps,
Mike

I find my Cascade 1000 is a real pain to keep quiet. Have you pulled the impeller shaft out of the impeller to take a look at it. It is a steel shaft rather than ceramic and that makes it wear much quicker than the EHeim shafts. Once worn, they are noisy.

A thin coat of petroleum jelly (Vasoline?) will sometimes quiet them for a while.

Check the shaft bushings, if they are worn it'll make some noise. I've also found with mine if there is a little bit of air in the filter it will make noise.
