Stores in Boston
I am new to the area. I have been to Lovely Pets and Tropical Isle. I like both stores a lot. Area their any other stores in Boston or around Boston that I should visit? I have also been to Uncle Ned's.

you have been to the good one's so far Skippton is inBoston off Mass Ave but i think there in for more salt water than plants , Lovely Pets is starting to get a larger selection of plants and drift woods i think if you talk to Jim {i think thats his name} he can get you just about any kind of plant you want, Tropical Isle are expensive and they are good for equipment and parts and fish i had bought a use 110g tank, stand and canopy for a good price, Uncle Ned's are good for salt and brakish water they say they can order cert en plants if you want , and i had been here for 21 years i have not seen any others as good as these , i had heard of another store on rt 1 on the other side of Boston i don't know the name good luck hunting

Was in Newton recently, saw this place and stopped in.
Aquatic Treasures 721 Washington St, Newton, MA 02458 (617) 332-2882 Owner was a nice enough guy, was real patient with my two young sons. One of whom fell in love with a blue beta. Then I spied a gold nugget pleco. About 2 inches long, $30 (Foster & Smith is $39 plus shipping). He claimed to have it in the shop for 5 months. I scooped it up. Seems to be real healthy and is doing fine as is the beta. The store is in a state of disarray. I didn't see any plants. He talked about doing commercial installations and maintenance. I don't see how he makes a living but hey who else gets to have their hobby as a job.

Skiptons and Lovely Pets
Believe or not.. Petco in Cambridge has some very nice driftwood.. Sitting in a tank on display.. Just have to get them to take out whatever you want to buy. I picked up 3 small pieces for 4.50 a piece along with a $2 off coupon.

Has anyone been to Pet Express on the Lynnway in Lynne? I am wondering if that's worth checking out.

I've been out of the hobby for a while (kids and all) and am just getting restarted. Is it just me or has Tropic Isle gone downhill a bit. They still seem to have a really nice SW section but their FW fish selection just seem lacking. I've gone in there a couple of times just looking for a few otto's or anything interesting and come up empty. They still have some nice display tanks but the fish from those display tanks never seem to be in their sale tanks.
Still better than the immediate surroundings but Uncle Ned's or the Fish Nook in Acton while smaller seems to have more interesting fish. |

In a short amount of time I purchased a fair amount from Tropic Isle and I cant say I was particularly happy with what I was buying...
My plants had snails that soon over ran my tank... |

Hm, good thread. I'm in Acton and I've been to the Fish Nook but that's about it. Heading into Boston or to Ned's is kind of a hike for fish, though.

Apparently things don't change much.
The store is still in disarray, and no plants. However the lowest pricest Lees triple filter I have seen $4. Quote:

Skiptons is pretty nice. I live a few turns away from it and their staff are pretty nice and knowledgable. They dont seem to presure you into buying stuff you truely dont need. To be honest, they dont have a huge selection of freshwater, but a pretty decent one. Thier store is pretty equally divided between fresh and salt. Still a place worth checking out. Thier prices on livestock are decent, though thier equipment could use a slight tweaking still not rediculous though.
