Can't remember how many bags of aqua soil I need

Been away from the fish keeping scene because Uncle Sam wanted me in Korea.

Trying to setup a new tank now that I'm back.
I think I remember buying 4 bags of aqua soil and some powersand for a 75 gallon tank. Is that right?
I'm planning on a doing a 40 gallon breeder tank so I should get (3) 9 liter bags right?

How many bags are you using? I myself am in the process of setting up a 40B.

I think 1 bag will do a 15 or 20 gallon tank, depending on how thick you want the substrate to be. I did a 10 gallon that goes from 1 inch to 3 inches deep and a 2.5 gallon with 2 inches and I still have a quarter of a bag left over.

Found an old thread of mine putting my 75 gallon for sale. I said I had 4 bags worth of aqua soil. A 40 is the same footprint as a 75 minus an extra foot lengthwise.
When I did my 75, I used about 1 liter of powersand m and (3.5) 9 liter bags of aqua soil.

I figure its gonna take 1 liter if powersand and maybe about 2.5 bags of aqua soil to get the depth that I want.

You definately want enough substrate. It makes planting so much easier when I can push the roots deep enough to not let the plants float away.

The nice thing about the Aquasoil bag meqasurements is that they already give you volume. LXWXD. Plenty of charts and calculators online, but the gist is that a liter is about 550 cu inches.

Guess it does depends how deep you want the substrate to be. Might start with three myself and add from there.
