Just a few comments on this.

First, I ran across this thread because I saw it linked by the OP in another forum post.

If this is a NJ tour, why is this in the NY section? Why dont you duplicate this thread in the NJ section as well? I am sure you will get a lot more bites.

I definitely recommend the ADA store in ridgewood.

However, I just visited Fish Town USA in Ramsey, and I hate to say bad things about businesses, but the tanks were very dirty. My daughter asked me why there was a pile of BROWN stuf in all off the tanks and I said they have yet to clean them. Also, all of the glasses of the tanks were dirty.

All the plants were in bad shape (although they did have a lot of them, and a lot for $1.50? on sale?)

I did buy something, but I was overall concerned about what was actually in the water with what I bought. I pushed it out to another bucket, and out came a black insect (pinhole size), that not only lived in water but outside. I then saw some copepods or some other type of white animal in the water with my fauna..

In the shrimp tanks, I saw all kinds of creatures scurrying in the dirt. I mean, hey, if you clean the face of the tanks and just vacuum up the softball size dirt from inside the tanks, no one would know better right?

Then my daughter tells me, hey dad is that ick (I never had ick, but I explained it to her) and she said the entire tank of parrots had ick. I dont think the sponge filters which are filthy are doing anything good for the fishes either.

My first visit there. I wish them the best, but I believe if they want to continue to succeed, they should clean their tanks.


As for this trip, if you guy are getting to be in numbers, whoever is organizing this should CALL THE STORE IN ADVANCE to let them know you are coming in a group. And you guys should PRE-ARRANGE a discount like 10% (which is very little, when you consider a plant may be $4.00-$10.00) -- This will create buzz, the shop gets traffic and its a WIN-WIN

I am sure the guys in Ridgewood would love the foot traffic to their new store, and the people at Fish Hut also.

Its DOWN 46 from FISH HUT, which is down from STRICTLY in CLIFTON

I was at Reef Encounter about 5 days ago, they did have some amano shrimps and some plants, nothing special. The HC looked fresh, thats about it. I was in Clifton 2 days ago, and S. Aquatics and they didnt have any new plants, they said Thursday or Friday. I was in Fish Hut about 4 -5 days ago picking up fish, and they had just set up 2-4 tanks with some of the regular plants (they were floating) so I am not sure what the deal is with that. They do have a LOT of FISH TANKS though.

They also started to carry Shrimps like Amanos, Bamboo Shrimps and some other stuff I saw.

This is a dry run. If the trip proves to be successful, we can plan larger meeting with our members in nj and plan for a weekend which would better suit a larger audience.

Problem is that "weekend" in Bergen County is only Saturday...

I would love to make it, but my buddy has to work every Saturday until the end of the year and I don't know how eager my wife is to spend a WHOLE day going from one store to another. LOL

I appreciate the enthusiasm but lets get a headcount and see how many people and cars are going first. I'm hoping by this weekend, we'll have a firm list and also seat availability too. If anyone else can drive, it would make things much easier but for now it will be Jake and I.

Its an ambitious trip to say the least but also keep in mind if it wasnt worth it, we wouldnt be doing it
