Because they're too long and too narrow and all the "cool" driftwood doesn't really fit easily because it's meant for bigger tanks!
Only half kidding.. I'm setting one of these up, and it's been a challenge.. it's hard to deal with the plants when I can't easily see what I'm doing while reaching into the tank. I also found the PERFECT piece of driftwood in my LFS but it refuses to sink.... I'm giving it another week or so then I'm just going to mount it to something heavy and stop being annoyed at it |

Its annoying , especially when "that perfect piece of driftwood" will fit in a 40 gallon breeder but not a 55 :-(
Start looking on craigslist and get a 75 ;-)

Or a chainsaw. Helped a friend rip down a huge stump to fit in his 55 last week. Deciding to cut it: two months. Cutting it: two minutes. Figuring out which piece to use? Oy vey, he'll be fiddling with both of them for another week at least.

LOL... Yea I have been there with cutting down my driftwood!
An Unfortunitly a 75 gallon isnt in the cards right now. I am saving for a custom acrylic tank that is 50 inches wide 24 deep 24 high. that will go into my wall. so I have to work with what I got. So lets see some tanks, lol... I will try to get mine posted next tuesday as I cant upload from work. Curt |

With a 55, how about a nice 3-D background on the outside of the tank?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues with the size/shape of a 55 gal.

I'm also having issues with scaping my 55, luckily for me though I found a free 75g on CL yesterday, and then the center brace on my 55 mysteriously broke within a couple hours (It broke by itself, not by my hands lol). So I was able to justify the need for larger tank to my wife. YAY!
Oh and a little trick I've found to help sink driftwood is to drill holes in the 'bottom' to the core. Helps the water permeate the wood faster. |

I think my driftwood fits perfectly in my 55 firehouse tank.

Can't see those in person at all so I'm not too worried about someone thinking it looks like garbage based on a cell phone pic.
