Hygrophila polysperma problem
Well, I got some Hygro a long time ago. Now, it doesn't grow up only sideways, well it's not even growing! Why? Is it the lack of light?
Thanks

Usually when plants start to grow sidaways it usually means you have alot of light.

really? I only have two 65 watt PC lighting and it doesn't like to grow upwards. Also, I don't see any signs of the plants pearling. The Hygro also stoped growing! The algae becomes so annoying that at one point, I have to use my fingers and rub the algae off! Since there's a whole bunch of algae int he aquarium, should I just add more CO2 and plants?
Thanks!!

Jeff, What size tank is it. Also for hygro to stop growing and because you say you have a major algae problem you may be lacking some forgotten nutrient. Co2 and lighting are two very important nutrients. What is your dosing scedule?
We need more info on your setup to help you out. |

I killed my hygro that way too (lack of nutrient)
in my case, I didn't do any dosing and left for a month (no water change) algae took over & I tossed everything out

If you have that much algae, you have other problems. It does sound like you have a fertilizing problem - not enough of something.
Clean out manually everything as well as you can. Make sure your CO2 is in the 30ppm range, have 2-3wpg on lighting, and dose your ferts to around 10ppm NO3, 1-2ppm PO4, and adequate amounts of traces. Hygro's a real weed. When I had it, it would grow about 2+ inches a week in a 10 gal with 2.5wpg.

I have one stem that is growing sideways, well lets say diagonal as well. But I don't have a problem with it, it adds a nice view to the tank.
