Lol, yes the 5 was on the stool. It was more stable then it looks, I swear! Knotyourreality, thanks for that tip! While better then before, I definitely have some playing around to do. And Zapbrannigan, thanks for the suggestion. I tried the 15w bulbs (not Hagen though), but they put out too much heat and rose the temp in my tank drastically. The 9w are much better, they haven't changed the temp at all.

Another little update. I tweaked the driftwood (it has a nice little cave under it now), moved a few things, took out the rocks, and added a crypt. And I identified the plants, its a egeria najas behind the driftwood and a cabomba on the right. Also added some emerald eye rasboras.

Your tank is looking really good, and now I want new lights for my tanks. :P

Thanks Microw! I hadn't realized it, but before every time I looked at my tank, it made me feel sad and anxious, which sucked because it is in our main living space so I'm staring at it all the time. Now I feel happy and calm!

So its been two weeks since I redid this tank, and its all going well. The egeria najas is ridiculous, it barely peeked out over the driftwood when I first planted it, and two weeks later its reaching across the tank. I will be setting up a 29g soon, so I might put it in that tank and put something else in this tank. Not sure I want to be trimming every two weeks!

I had a berried female cherry shrimp, but I haven't seen her in a week. Not seeing any babies yet either, so I don't think this batch made it either. I love the oto's, and really like the emerald eye rasbora's too. I put in a little sponge filter with powerhead that I will use to help cycle my new tank, and in future use in my emergency tank, and the rasboras seem to love to play in the current. But its a small tank, so while its hidden okay, it will be nice to get it out into the bigger tank soon.

Please ignore the low water line, I am moving this tank to another room today, so will be trimming and topping up the water later. All in all I'm still really happy with this and liking how its filling in. So glad I re-did it and not just tore it down, although its too bad I didn't do it sooner!

Thanks Silmarwen!

I moved the tank into my 7yo sons bedroom today, and he seems pretty happy about it. I found this weird caterpillar in the tank though! In another thread most seem to think its a caddisfly larva, it must have hitchhiked on the new plants I got when redoing the tank.

I also found the berried shrimp again! And boy, is she berried. It was like she could barely hold onto the eggs. They were huge! I don't know how long a shrimp carries her eggs for, but I can't imagine it will be for too much longer!

I trimmed down some of the egeria najas and added it to my 29g. Boy that stuff is crazy fast growing! The bacopa in front of the driftwood is doing great too. I may actually trim it back a bit, I don't want it taller then the driftwood.

I am so in love with this tank right now! I'm sad that its in my sons room as I almost never see it. But just motivation and inspiration to get the 29g going and making it better too.

And my shrimp is still berried! I had two berried, but was looking at one today and she definitely didn't have eggs anymore. I haven't seen any tiny baby shrimp, so I'm assuming she dropped the eggs. So fingers crossed the other eggs make it!

Love this tank!

We have baby shrimp! My son and I counted between 6-8, although usually I can only find 1 or 2 at a time. They are so tiny! This tank is doing great, everyone seems happy. I'm a bit worried about my assassins, they are no snails for them to eat, but they've been munching on the crab cuisine and freezedried bloodworms I think. I do have a few baby pond snails in my other tank, so I'm waiting for them to grow a bit and hopefully multiply so I can feed them to the assassins. The plants are doing great, I'm shocked at how quickly everything is growing. No algae yet, which is good. I'm going to be stealing some of the dwarf sag out of this tank to put in my other one. I was looking back at old pics of this tank before the redo, I can't believe how much dwarf sag I had at one point. I'm hoping it does that well in this tank again. And I just got a new filter for my other tank and will be transferring the old one to this tank (Aqueon Quiet whatever 20).
