Blasting Sand - East Bay
Do any of you happen to know where I can find Black Diamond or Black Beauty blasting sand in the East Bay? I've googled it and have found any place that carries it.
Thx. |

I got mine at Tractor Supply in Woodland, CA for <$10 per 50 lbs. Any within driving distance for you?
http://www.tractorsupply.com/ I am hooked on capping dirt with Black Diamond blasting sand. Love the stuff. |

None particularly close. May have to head up toward the Sacramento area one of these days. Thanks again

I've got an extra bag I could sell you if you want to pick up in El Cerrito.
Otherwise you can buy it by the pound from Pet Club at an incredibly inflated rate or drive to a Tractor Supply.

I would get on the phone, not the internet.
Try calling Morgans in Antioch and Brickyard in Concord. Ask if they have it, but if they do not, ask if they know anyone who does. There are also several rock yards out in Brentwood, one on the far side at Byron Hwy, the other north of town on the old Hwy 4. Try other construction stores, too. Maybe lumber yards?? How about White Cap? Fairfield and Concord are the closest that I know of to Antioch. There are a Home Depot and a Lowes in Antioch, way out on the new part of Lone Tree. Lots of phone calls! Tractor Supply in Dixon is a bit of a drive. |

I never did find any in E. CoCoCo, called around and visited a few places who were unsure. I ended up stopping by Tractor Supply in Dixon when I went out to Vacaville and picked up 4 bags of Black Diamond. Thanks for all of your help.

I vigorously rinse it with a garden hose and castile soap in a bucket.

I rinsed and rinsed with hose in a 5 gal bucket. I did so until the oil slick was really small. Once I placed it in my tank, I added an air stone and my filters took care of the rest.

Hello,
do you guys get the fine grade for the Black Diamond sand ? from my search for its usage on planted aquarium, several says to look for 30-60 fine grit. checking from the tractor supply, it seems it is only available in 20-40, http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...ng-media-50-lb does it means it is smaller with lower number ? looking further, the same company also sell the 30-60 grit from other manufacturer and the product called as little fury ... http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...ing-grit-50-lb But not too sure whether it is safe to use little fury, especially with the fish that like to dive into like cory -or- whether it is inert ... UPDATE: find the answers myself ... lots turn up after searching little fury for planted aquarium substrate. Following has lots of pic ... http://www.exoticfishforum.com/threa...ubstrate.5754/ I think my next substrate will be little fury ... so ... need to plan the trip to closest tractor supply ... it will worth the trip.
