Have a question about sorority tanks... is it recommended to keep a minimum of 5? Is this also meant to diffuse aggression?

I've heard 6 is best, and to get them all at once, but I only have one male, and one female. No experience in a girl group lol.

I started up another sorority recently, but started with 2. It went okay. But its also in a big tank. ymmv. Now I've got 5 in there, hoping to do 10 or whatever big number. Never really seen any fighting, some flaring and body circling but, they mind their own business. I think the min. is 4.

Min is usually recommended as 5, minimum size tank would be 10 gallons though 20+ is better. Ive read you have a better chance of a peacefull tank if you keep sisters rather than random females.

depends on the size of your tank... in a ten gallon 6 is recommended, to spread out the aggression.

in a much larger tank you can have or less... it shouldn't really matter.

The ones at win looks like siblings, you probably wont have a cat fight if you are looking at those..

In a heavily planted tank you can get away with less, but I wouldn't try it. When things go bad, they'll go bad quick with fewer numbers.

I've been thinking about a sorority tank as well, but don't have the room right now. Why don't you post this question on the main forum rather than the NY sub-forum? You might get more responses.

hah... well part of it is we all know each other now. I'm hoping to cast a wider net to involve other hobbyists in the tri-state area to our meets as well.

I must admit, my tanks havent looked this good and MTS is hitting hard
