Sundays are usually fine for me, so I don't really care which one we pick. I also have no preference where we go; I'll need a ride if its out of the city or far from public transit, but I'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I also put forth the theory that planted freshwater aquariums appeal to those of us who are scientifically inclined, whether it be for ecology or chemistry, and that this lends itself to nerdiness being more prevalent, and therefore more acceptable, within our subculture.

Regarding NJ, I have four definite lfs and a fifth that I am checking into.

A queens tour is possible as well but less impressive than the jersey venue which is why it wasn't raised earlier. If I propose this trip for November 3rd, how many people can make it and be able to drive or need a ride. The time required would certainly be longer than our previous city meet so we would plan to be out for most of the day.

So, we would meet up in the LES, carpool and take a ride to NJ/upstate NY and visit some shops, then drive back to NY, then go our separate ways? Sounds fun but it would take a lot of coordination.

The logistics would depend on where people were coming from. For example, for those in queens, brooklyn or upstate, people could meet locally first, then travel directly to either LES or to the first stop in NJ, which ever makes sense.

The LES meeting point largely would be for manhattanites who need need a ride. Those coming from Queens/Brooklyn naturally would pass through the manhattan en route to Jersey anyway.

But you are right about needing more coordination as people will be relying one another. I have already visited three of the shops and can confidently say there's plenty to see there. Its definitely different from our usual haunts.

I have a relative who owns a restaurant in hackensack (near one of the aquariums slated on the venue) so an indoor swap location is not a problem.

can't do that my husbands competing with his dog that day and I can't even make the 4th because of a "have to go to" party

If you ever do another NJ Saturday tour let me know I can take 3 comfortably

Absolutely Fish and Pet Shanty are realllly nice, but in different directions.
