GCAS Meeting/Auction Wednesday June 5th. 7:30 PM

The next Greater City Aquarium society meeting/auction will be next Wednesday June 5th at 7:30 PM. The guest speaker will be my good friend Leslie Dick. She will be speaking on goodeids ( wild type livebearers ). I spoke with Leslie last night and she told me she will be bringing some goodeids and other rare livebearers for the auction. This will be a good opportunity to pick up some rarely available livebearers. Hope to see some of you there.

The Greater City Aquarium Society meets on the first Wednesday of every month (except January and February)
at the Queens Botanical Garden, in Flushing, Queens, NY.
Meetings begin at 7:30 pm.

Each meeting features a guest speaker, an eclectic auction featuring lots of locally bred fish and plants,
a raffle, a doorprize, refreshments, and great fish friends.

Membership in the GCAS is $20,
and includes a subscription to Greater City's award-winning magazine, Modern Aquarium.

All GCAS meetings are free and open to the public.

Just a last minute reminder. The meet/ auction is tomorrow evening at 7:30 pm. if its your first time, give yourself some time before the start of
the talk, so you can check out the auction lots and just to chit chat with other club members. Should be a good auction for rare livebearers and plenty of other nice fisn and plants. hope to see home of you there.

Last night's auction was HUGE. Leslie Dick gave a wonderful presentation on goodeid livebearers and brought several species of fish from her own collection to auction.

Was very nice seeing Ruben, Jeff and Andrew with his kids who scored some gorgeous red guppies.

I sat with Frank Policastro Jr, a coworker who happens to be VP of the NJAS. There were half a dozen large daphnia cultures which went between $7-$11. Java ferns going for $4-9. Vals from $3-5. There were several large aubias clusters of plants which i even considered. I picked up 3 whiptail catfish and 6 white clouds (C.A.R.E.S) from Leslie. Shrimp on auction included Blue Pearls, Cherries, Sulawesi, Wild Neos. Bolivian rams, Various angels, livebearers and several other cichlids were listed. It certainly was a crazy night.

I will consider bringing my plants there to spread the joy.

Was a pleasure seeing you again Al, as well as meeting Andrew and his kids, who got some beautiful guppies and did really well in the raffles. The auction was one of the biggest i remember and was definitely a buyers auction. Lots of bags of fish went for $4.00 - $6.00. I wish i had more tank space, yesterday was one of those auctions where you would come home with new species to try out. I came home with a pair of Xenotoca eiseni, which have been on my wish list. Hope next months meeting/auction is even bigger and i can meet some more peeps from here.
