Fluval EBi flora Super low tech

4-21-2014

Details-
23watt CFL
No co2
Small power head
4 hours of light

Plants-
Anubias nana
Anubias Golden
Windlov Java fern
Java fern
Crypt
Ludwigia
HC

Animals-
1 dwarf cory
1 Guppy
Red cherry shrimp
Some times an olive snail, depend on his rotation schedule :P

Original post-
Here is my used fluval. It has some scratches and chips but I got it for for free and it holds water. Ill be adding a guppy, he will be happy going from 1.25 gallons to 7g. Maybe some galaxy rasoboras and dwarf cories later on.

Right now I have no filtration or water moving because I don't reallly want to use the stock filter(it's a huge eye sore). I may get a small powerhead or steal one from my other tanks.

You may be right, it may be limestone. I did a vinegar test and got no reaction though but I can't find any other matches. This is disappointing, now Ill probably have to remove it.

I removed the rocks. I have some petrified wood and round river stones as my options now. Researching petrified wood now, so far I have read that it may increase GH.

I have petrified wood in my 9G Ehiem with no ill effects. Have a thriving cherry shrimp colony in there and no altered parameters.

Here is my petrified wood. It has some really cool crystals on it.

I just tested the grey rocks with nitrate test 1 and it fizzed pretty good so I am glad I removed them. I also tested the petrified wood and nothing happened so I *know* it wont change my ph. I also picked up a bag of black lava rocks from lowes, so I have a lot of options to play around with.

The water isn't yellow, I think the white balance is off. The dwarf baby tears are growing really well with out co2, just slowly. I also added ludwigia a day ago.

I wish I had more dwarf cories and some celestial danios.

Love the setup, i really need to redo my flora. It's now just a column of moss with a little rotala H'ra and various anubias mingled in.

I stayed away from moss for the reason. I have 10 gallon that is just a giant ball of moss with anubias and java ferns ever where.. Thanks you for the compliment.
