9 Aug Update! Been running Diatomaceous earth in the HOT MAGNUM filter for 5 hrs now...noticable difference. Also added 13 Black neons, and 20 regular neons, and 3 more ottos.

My White Clouds are schooling with the neons...how funny

did my first water change this morning as well with 20 gallons in the 100 gallon.

Here are some pics of the fishies....

Deuce,

No nitrites....very very low between 0 and 5 ppm for nitrates...will check tomorrow but pretty sure with all the plants and filtration I need to dose some more KNO3.

Deuce,

ok change one! The Nitrate level this morning was between 5ppm and 7ppm...I think that is due to the night and the plants are not photosynthesizing? can anyone clue me in on this?

I will test nitrates this afternoon to see if there is a change. Fish should all be fine below 10ppm Im pretty sure. I looked around and saw that some sites recc that you run 5-10ppm for nitrates....I should be right in that realm now. My test kit for nitrates states that for freshwater tanks nitrates should be below 40ppm. I also have no ammonia or nitrites.

Hope that helps.

Mike

You know, I do think those are SAE's. The stripe through the tail hasn't fully developed, but otherwise they look the part. Can you count the barbels?

GCA,

100% sure these are SAE's the store labled them as tru flying foxes. Thanks...still having the clouding problem and a big bout with ich. Have been treating with Rid Ich +...FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS....I accidently added a bit too much at first and lost quite a few fish. (Followed instructions just did the dose every 12 hours). Now i am dosing on a 24 hr schedule. Seems to have cleared up yesterday but will still treat through the weekend to ensure good results.

EVAN,

Will try to get a pic up today on it. Need to do some trimming and moving around of some of the plants.

Ok here is an update on the tank....had a bout with the ICH couple of weeks ago and have solved it via RID ICH+ and elevated temp. Keeping the temp up for a couple more days around 86 to be sure.

If you notice in my previous posts there is a haze to the water....Roger Miller says that this was a predecesor to GW (early stages). Monitored my ferts and used DE in my HOT MAGNUM 250 to clear it out.....was a stop gap....GW BACK

I then tried using the coaggulant that some people posted Accu Clear I think...got it at petsmart. Dosed that for 3 days with the MAGNUM running DE...had to change DE out twice daily. VERY CLEAR WATER...but GW came back but in less of a frenzy. Today is the first 24 hrs with NO GW or haze...will still do the DE for another couple of days just to be sure.

Patience......

Here are some updated pics....any suggestions on aqua scaping guys let me know!!!!!

PS The Green hair algae seems to be changing color as if dying off....not sure ....I have some close ups of the tennellus that was covered.

Isn't it amazing how fast it grows and changes? So much fun!

You asked for comments so I'll note that in the last big tank shot it seemed that on the left are all the big leaved plants, on the right are all small leaves. I suggest mixing that up a bit.
