While taking pictures of my fishies nibbling on a Zucchini, a Ghost Shrimp approached and had some too. I used an 80mm plastic projector lens in front of my G3 to get really close. There is almost no depth of field when doing that, and 80 to 90% of the images are out of focus. This is actually the only one that looked promising out of 8. In Photoshop, I slightly increased the contrast via curves, and ran it through my usual sharpening and resizing routine. Nothing else has been modified or cropped.
Believe me... it looks much better on my monitor than in IE... but anyway, interesting shot.

Man, I'm pretty damned impressed with some of the photos you've been taking and I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a sony P51 2 mega pixel, decent camera, Do you know if they sell a macro lens attachment for this camera so I can get some closer shots?

I doubt they do, but I am not familiar with Sony cameras. I read it lets you preset a manual focus at about 3 inches, that should get you pretty close, not sure if you can still zoom in all the way.
One thing you could try for really close closeups is what I did in this picture: hold another lens in front of it. I used an 80mm slide projector lens, but any camera lens (if detachable) might work. Not very convenient, and it might block stuff like the flash, autofocus assist etc.
Adding lenses in front of your camera will degrade the quality... to some degree you might be better off getting as close as your camera lets you get, and then crop the 2 MPixels.

The Sony P51 has a threaded lense thats lets you use 37mm attachments so you could get a good macro lense for it. Thats a pretty nice camera, but can be a real pain to use for underwater macro shots. I used it for a while and did manage to get a few sharp pics...

I looked at a picture and review of the Sony and it didn't mention the threaded lens, but hey, that makes things much easier! I know they sell various 37mm attachments at Circuit City, but there are probably better deals on the web. I have a Hoya macro set +1, +2 and +4, and only the +4 is any useful. So if you can get a single macro diopter I would suggest something in the vincinity of +4 or +5.
