is this algae? or typical driftwood slime?

i've never put real driftwood in my tanks until recently and one of the pieces is pretty nasty...i've seen pictures of driftwood with that slime/fungus that goes away in a couple weeks but this stuff is pretty gross.

can anyone tell me if this is the typical stuff that shows up on new driftwood? or is it something is should take care of?

Just looks like the fungus that grows on it.
