You can find much better for the same money you'd waste on Bose.
I changed out tubes to a different set but forgot to make an adjustment internally to accommodate for the new, lower power tubes. So I basically overpowered the new tubes and literally fried the circuit board. It's probably repairable, I just haven't tried yet.

My Sennheiser HD430 set is approaching 40 years of age now (I've had to replace foam a couple of times - is cheap & easy to do), still sounds awesome. Their over the ear design is still among the most comfortable around.
I hate ear buds, I seldom use 1/8" jack headphones - prefer using the car's stereo. Given my experience w/ Senns, I'd look there first for a "public transportation ready" set.

UNFORTUNATE TRUTH
don't get me wrong, my phone is a lifeline media player used frequently but when it comes down to my car or home stereo. DONT even think about putting one single digital function on the amplifier.. recievers and stuff, yeah sure no problem. but for power,, i just like it plain and simple

I'm using some Monster Turbine Coppers. It's the highest end on Monster's monitor line up. They are surprisingly crisp and clear. I got them through the Monster Outlet store on their website for 150. It MSRP's for 400 I believe. I do not regret the purchase at all!

biggerbang - I hear/read the monster turbine IEM's are pretty good, probably the only monster-branded products that are worthwhile. |

oo that does sound like a fun endeavor
keep in mind analog does not mean it has tubes, just that it processes signal in an analog format. not digital digital = has processor to determine where and how to code music and which amplifier/ transistor it goes to.. = thinks too much about performing. analog = responds to + responses in power. and frequency determines where that little packet of power is transformed.. its only a response device, it cannot think. it only performs

Also use optional cable with music controls and Comply foam tips. Very, very good sound. Not the best thing out there, but for the money I think it's hard to do much better. |

I've been using for 3 years now- Monsters Turbine, also very happy with them. They come with plenty of ear fittings and two cases and the cord is considered tangle proof. (it does unravel quite nicely)
