But seriously for ear buds under $100 nothing is going to beat the S'4s.
Coming form a guy that builds his own speakers for entertainment (computer/tv) and cars =P |

Etymotic Research MC5 and HiFiMan RE-0 blow it out of the water imo for under 100$ (I have owned all 3 of them).

Mmm, headphones.
I've got quite the collection from old n cruddy to nice and I've listened to some really nice sets but I harbor a secret love for my old Koss. I've got the TD/80s that are my day to day computer phones and I've got an ancient set of Koss PRO/4AAA that are amazing for classic rock and metal but they need repairs on the left speaker connection. I've got a set of low end Senns kicking around and my fiancee has some rather expensive Shures if I want something more modern, but she keeps dropping hints that I'm getting my holy grail for christmas, a set of Sennheiser HD 555s I suspect that they've been surpassed by some of the new Senns, but I love them and really can't wait! |

They did?
IMO, Skullcandy, Beats, Monster, anything along those lines are mostly fashion accessories or for those that just need to hear noise coming from their iPod and don't really want to hear the music.

So ive been doing some heaving reading over the discovery threads (thanks tobystanton) and will be purchasing these hidden gems:
Philips SHE9750/28 (newer version of the 9700) Philips SHE3590WT/1 (newer version of the legendary 3580's) these are sub $30 and $10 earbuds respectively but have rave reviews for outcompeting $300 and $100 buds on the market. Another hidden gem is the ThermalTake Isurus which is an OEM rebrand of another famous maker. I really do miss the clarity of my Etymotic Research HF5's but i'm not going to drop $149 for earbuds anymore. I'd like to try out the Sony XBA-3's one of these days. Anyways. Thanks all for the input!

I use Beats earbuds...of course they were a gift Id never have purchased them for myself.
For home use I have a set of Roland RH-300s which offer all the personal sound experience I need.

Water resistant Adidas sport ear buds with anti tangle cord...
They paired up with sennheiser (sp?) And put out a sport line. Best ear buds I've ever had, even if they can't touch the full sizers. I think they were $40-60 on sale at best buy (had a gift card) |

They actually aren't bad, and you can take them off if you don't want to use them. They sound great though! |

OMG. just received these philips SHE3582. I am actually amazed with how these $7 phones sound. To give you an idea of my baseline, my daily phones are the Shure E5C's. Paid $499 for these 8 years ago and have really earned their keep many times over.
I picked up a few pairs of sub $20 sony ear buds over the years on trips and were disappointed upon initial use. These SHE3580's are a hidden gem. The Bose IEMs sound nice but they have a particular sound signature and range. They shine in the mids but not particularly well in the highs or lows as a universal. I'm not particularly fond of big brands and more interested in finding quality regardless of make, the proverbial diamond in the rough with all things. If you are up for trying something new, i'd say these $7 phones are worth considering. Here's more info incase anyone's interested: Philips 3580 IEMs
