24" Ray II on a 37g
Would this fixture (24" Ray II) be too much on a 37g tank? I really like how compact it is. The tank dimensions are 30" x 12" x 22" and my substrate is about 2 1/2" to 3" deep.
My light currently is a Coralife 2T5NO and a 30" T8 strip light that came with the tank. I'm aiming for medium lighting as I am not running pressurized CO2 and 1/3 EI dosing. Here's the tank with the current lighting minus the T8 strip light:

I've been reading that thread and it looks like I'm on target (30-80 PAR) for my lighting needs but wanted to be sure that this one fixture would be enough.

Assuming par values are accurate you should be golden.

If it is like the Ray2 it should slide out, that is what I have.

I ordered this light for my 38Bow (almost the same dims as yours), but I will be injecting CO2.
It should arrive tomorrow...can't wait to fire it up and see the light. BTW...your plants look great. |

You want pics of just the light or of it on the tank? I ask because I'm spending the long weekend tearing down the tank and then rebuilding it with all new stuff (including this light) so tank shots would probably be Monday.

To address your query, you're probably looking at good medium light for your application. The FugeRay may be a bit on the low light side and I'd hate to risk your plants because of it. Saying that you had 2xT5 and a T8 would lead me to believe the Ray II would be more ideal than the FugeRay |

It just came and is even smaller than I imagined. It's very nice looking, but I will likely either paint the gray end caps black or machine new ones from aluminum and send them along the next time I have to get something black anodized.
The legs do slide out to adjust, but not a huge amount. The fixture itself is 23 5/8" long and the legs look like they could extend out to maybe a max tank width of 26". This doesn't matter to me as I'm just setting it on my glass top. The light color seems great...I'm not perceiving any yellow (I got the 7K/7K version). The light spread for each LED is also very impressive. I put my hand directly against the splash guard to block the light from numerous LEDs and expected it would create a giant shadow on the floor....nope. There was a vague dimming affect on one side, but I had to look for it. Sorry for turning your thread into an improptu review...I'll try to post some pics in a few days. |
