Eastern MA Plant group? Any interest?
Hi folks, after a wonderful 5 days being steeped in "plant stuff" when I spoke at GWAPA last month, I came home re-energized, excited about working with some new plants and wishing we had a group in this area devoted to the planted aquarium hobby. Don't get me wrong, the BAS is a WONDERFUL group, but the focus is not on planted aquaria.
I was wondering if there are other people in the area who would like to get together intermittently (monthly? every other month?) to "talk plants". I live in the metrowest area, and would be happy to host, at least to start with. (If we get to be as big as GWAPA, who, I hear has about 80 members, we won't fit in MY house!!! Let me know if there is any interest!!! |

I'd be interested, although I live in Bernardston and am pretty far flung from the Boston area

What's considered metrowest? I'm 20 minutes from the MA/NH border and would love a club like that.

I am the current president of the New Jersey Aquatic Gardeners Club and would be glad to have a joint road trip with you guys to Aqua View Design in Northampton, MA http://www.aquaviewdesign.com/index.html I have discussed this with some of the members of NJAGC and they would be up for it on a Saturday next year sometime.
Karen Randall wrote about this store in the most recent The Aquatic Gardener. http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/tag.html This post was not meant to be an advertisement for TAG, but if you join now before Dec 31, 2012 your membership will include a free one year membership to The Barr Report. http://forum.aquatic-gardeners.org/v...hp?f=17&t=1583

I know it is a long time away, but we are looking for a September meeting. We have not finalized the actual date. Any input from your side? Any of you know what else is in the town for family members not so keen on Aquatic Plants?

There is also a great terrarium shop not TOO far away if people have any interest in combining that with the aquarium shop. And Northampton is lousy with good restaurants... They tend to be a bit crowded on the weekends, though.

We had a great group of people at my house for the first meeting of the Massachusetts Aquatic Plant Society (MAPS) on Dec. 9th. Lots of good conversation, everyone had a chance to see and chat about my tanks, David Lass brought the LED light tubes he is marketing. We even had a raffle and plant swap!
Right now, we're tentatively planning for a second meeting in March, at David Lass' lovely house in Nahant. David has lovely tanks, an indoor Koi pond and waterfall, and his house overlooks the ocean. It's a really special place, not to be missed! So keep your eye out for announcements here, on APC, the Barr Report or. Our AGA FB page! |
