Super low tech tank
5.5 gallon tank housing 3.5 inch 7 year old convict cichlid. 4 lucky bamboos and 2 pothos plants are in the filter and are used to get rid of nitrates and ammonia. This setup has been running for 2 years with same fish. Just moved this tank to a east facing window with more sunlight and the plants have started to take off nicely.

Smart set up but the fish looks a bit like Guliver in Lilliput.

Yea I know its a little small for him. I raised this guy in a 20 gallon tank originally with a redtail shark. They used to fight so much I just got fed up and stuck this guy in my 5.5 gallon tank. My mom had gotten this convict from one of her friends and I had no way of returning him and no one wanted to take it off my hands either so I was stuck with him. Btw I know some of you might think 20 gallon is too small for a RTS. But mine has been in there for 10 years now and is still going strong and looking super healthy.

Btw here is a link to a video of my 20 gallon:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/h6jlltx1gv...817_213136.mp4 I had just turned the lights on when I took this video so thats why everyone in this tank is a little dazed and slow lol. Fish: 1 RTS, 10 gold xray tetras, 5 harlequin rasboras, and 1 oto. Just got the oto 3 weeks ago seems to be doing good so far. Plants: Crypt wendtii green, ludwigia repens, couple of baby java ferns, got a few strands of java moss somewhere in there, and pothos growing in the filter. Just got the crypts and ludwigia repens last week so they are in the dying/melting phase. The crypts should come back fine but I'm wondering if the repens will survive with the 30w lighting I have in this tank. I don't plan on doing any dosing just water changes in this tank. Substrate is seachem fluorite red. |
