29 Gallon Dirted Aquarium

This is my first thread on planted tank! This is only my second tank that I have dirted and tried to plant. This 29 gallon tank has been up and running since February 2013 with some plants that have been doing just okay, however, I dirted the tank this last weekend. Unfortunately in switching things around i killed my 5 gorgeous Australian turquoise rainbows. Bummer. So currently there is only a gold gouramis, a clown pleco and a few red cherry shrimp. I am typically a big cichlid guy and it has been years since I've tried to keep community fish. Looking for suggestions as to what would be a good mix of fish to stock this tank. I would like to try a few angel fish and tetra in this tank like an amazon biotope type of tank. So far this tanks pH has been fairly high for some reason. Our area's water is fairly hard. Most my faucets have been testing about 7.2-7.4 pH. But this aquarium has been more like 8.2-8.4 pH.

I'm still quite the noob at this planted tank game, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Substrate: Organic Miracle grow capped with black pea gravel
Lighting: 21" 65w 6700k Compact Fluorescent

Default Video of newly Dirted 29 gallon aquarium

Here is a short video I took of my tank after dirting it and filling it back up. I currently do not have the spray bar on the filter because the out put and current seemed so high and was really pushing the plants around. Again, thanks for looking and please let me know your thoughts and recommendations.

The telanther plant needs to be more towards the middle. For since the light is shorter than the tank it won't get the light it needs where it is.

I started my 29G tank with that light. All of the plants leaned towards the middle when they got tall. I bet you got it on Ebay.

Another option for a light is Inexpensive Hanging T5HO like Hyer did.
