What kind of shrimp could I have with 6 neon tetras and a betta? The tank is 29g.

Would ahve to be a planted tank with hiding spots, and I would get about 50 to start so they can survive the attaches, but RCS...

RCS or Ghost. Ghost can sometime be aggressive and end up being a macro shrimp that get big and aggressive.

Bigger Amanos are a good choice, too. Ghost shrimp are okay, but can be really mean. I have five in a tank with a 4" gourami and every once in a while I see them try to bitch-slap him.

Amanos are a good choice. Ghost would be cheaper and less painful if they got eaten or harrased to death. I would go with RCS if you want something that might be able to breed and make it to adulthood, if you give them enough hiding places.

Do you have alot of hiding places? RCS have very little bioload so you could add all at the same time which would probably give you a better survival rate. Most likely they will be expensive from big box stores. I would try someone on the Forums. They most likely will be cheaper per shrimp, even with the shipping charge.

I have CBS in with my bettas (as well as Celestial Pearl Danios and Kuhli Loaches). Been together for 2 years with no noticeable problems. Certainly breeding and enough babies surviving that the population has grown considerably.

It's all dependent on the fish. Watching bettas hunt down shrimp is quite vicious...been there, done that. Some fish are fine with them but as a 'general rule' the only thing safe are otos.

Tetras WILL hunt and kill all the shrimp, unless they're ghost, amano, bamboo, or vampire.
And really, you should consider getting more neons, not shrimp at this point. 6 is lacking for a school, and you have plenty of room.

i had red cherries with a betta and tetras in a medium planted tank. The population grew slowly but the fish will pick off baby shrimp.
