Question about an old CO2 tank
I have a 15 year old 5 lb. CO2 tank I got for free. Obviously the tank has not been hydro tested in many years. If I go to Airgas can I just exchange the tank and if so, does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to exchange for a full tank?

You should be able to just exchange the tank, not sure how much for a 5lb but my 20lb cost 20$ here in wa. I go to a local shop though not airgas.

Here in the Austin area, the hydro test was $20 and they exchanged for a full tank. The gas was $13. One point that I got caught on is the date. I had assumed they were honest and did not check the date. They gave me a tank which expired the next month.
Now when this tank runs out, I'm looking at paying for another hydro test. But it will certainly be at a different shop! |

I've gotten an out of date at my last swap. The total for hydro test and co2 was $45.
If you look around your Tank and there will be some stamped marks. It's coded but it lists date and suff.

I think this is how it work with Airgas here in Dallas. Although I purchased and refill with them. Seems like everytime I go there, I get a brand new shiny tank in return. So I think they just do the upkeep on the returns. I pay about 17ish with tax for a 5lb refill.
