Pond snails while cycling
I'm a week and a half in to my cycling and the pond snails are already starting to ramp up. I have no problem with them now but I'm debating whether I should try and wipe them out once my cycle is done or just let them be. I don't have that big of a problem with them but I worry about the risk of their population exploding and competing against the nerites/shrimp I get once the tank is done cycling. I feel like if I was ever going to have a chance at stopping them it would be before I put any live stock in.

You can try to kill them but you won't ever get them all unless you poison them. Which might be a good natural ammonia source for your cycle.

as long as you dont over feed you should be ok. you can always pull all you see if you dont like them and that is way easier before its planted

If you're OCD and want something to do you could pick them out. I always just leave them be. The population explodes and they clean up all the stuff that melts and dies in a new tank and then they stop.
Anything you put in there to kill them could be a residual problem for other snails and shrimp you throw in later. |
