Molly has eggs outside body?
I was watching my fish and noticed my mollie has eggs outside her body. Im really worried. The male has been following her and harassing her all day. I caught her just to show you what I mean, then released her. Will she be ok?

well those arent her eggs. Mollys/platies are livebearers. (also looks more like a platy/swordtail to me) It looks to me like some kind of external parasite to me

It could be some sort or prolapsing, meaning parasites in the body.

Actually, they are eggs. I do understand that they are live bearing, but the live fry start off as eggs inside the female and then develop into the live fry before being born. She did have a few under developed fry earlier. Btw, she is a molly. I know the difference between the three...

I'm going to guess your platy is giving birth. I have seen it several times when my guppies have given birth. It's no big deal. She will become pregnant again in no time and it wont affect future breedings

Just to point out you did say you know the difference between the three and it is a molly.....
It is a plain old red platy, is it particles in the water or does it have white spot/ich? Quote:

Ok. Its not any type of parasite. A few dead fry have come from the same spot where the eggs are showing. It is eggs. Im just wondering why she is aborting them and if shes going to live.

i doubt she's killing her fry on purpose. something probably happened to them. she'll probably live, but then again it could be a sign of some disease, that she's not giving birth normally.

It's a platy with ich and a disease/parasite . I would take it out and QT it.

Uhh I want to say it's a platy that has unfertilized eggs it's trying to eject. Need a clearer picture.
Also prolapsing doesn't always happen from parasites....it can happen from BIRTH too(Happens in humans as well! Does this mean she has parasites? No!). Everyone is jumping to conclusions. Calm down, it looks likes a perfectly healthy fish that's having complications with birth. Quote:
IF it is prolapsing which it may be. A little magnesium sulfate should reduce the swelling and let the fish heal. |

A prolapse can happen to any fish - it's part of the anus or other organs protruding from the body and doesn't have to have anything to do with parasites or eggs or fry. Just sayin.
