Retrofitted Hood for Screw In CFL
I had some old 24" florescent hoods that had bad ballasts in them, so I ripped all the guts out and replaced them with 2 screw-in CFL bulbs, per hood. I used the Sylvania 6500k, 1450 lumen bulbs at a total of 4. I tried using 3 bulbs per hood, but it was getting way too hot, to the point it started discoloring the wire nuts and melting the hood. I built some reflectors from polished aluminum I had laying around, so they're throwing a good amount of light back off the top of the hood. The deepest part of my substrate is 18" from the glass.
My question is, at best guess, would these lights produce enough lumens for light hungry plants, like HC? |

Are they mounted vertical or horizontal? What wattage on the bulb? I have found hc is not that light demanding if you have good co2.
