SunSun filter for my new 40B?

So my thought is to get a SunSun HW-304B filter for my new 40B... but now I'm wondering if I should get a powerhead to help with circulation...

It's rated for 525GPH (which in reality is more like 394GPH after filter media is added) so that should put me around the 10x circulation without a powerhead. Or should I go smaller and get a powerhead in case there are any dead spots in the tank?

You should give just the canister a go then if you need it get a power head. With 10x turnover you should be okay the dead spots will show up from large plants and driftwood or rock so you can add a power head if need be.

I run a couple of these on my 90 gallon. and to be honest even one would get the job done. The flow is higher then you might think. I dont think its as low as what your 394 number is.

Great to hear more feedback like this! Thanks!

I don't think the 394 is accurate, just an estimated guess (I usually do 75% of what the rated GPH is and go from there)
