Trickerie's Spec. New 2.5g Shrimpy Tank :]

Hey All,

Starting up my 2.5g spec, and this time I'm going to make a journal (I neglected to make one for my 25g). I'll keep this updated with progress. Here's what I got so far!

Spec Unboxed:

Still unsure about the stock light, but lets hope it works!

Substrate Choice:

Mesh For Walls:

Sewn Together With Fluorocarbon:

My vision for this tank has 3 moss walls. Back, right, and left. I've purchased some taiwan moss to get the job done. I'm going to suction cup the walls. I'm debating on blacking out the left and right sides to you can't see the mesh from behind. Suggestions?

As for the rest, there will be only a single plant, an anubias nana 'petite'. I've purchased this as well! It will be dead center, and hopefully will stay small.

My stock will consist of RCS, hopefully some Sakura or PFR. I think they will look great against the all green plants.

i would definitely black out the sides, yeah.
your tattoos though are REALLY awesome, i've been wanting one a lot lately and you're not helping ;_;

Yeah I cant wait to get the moss and anubias. I originally wanted to get a crypt pygmaea but I think even that would have outgrown the tank. My only concern with blacking out the sides would be losing the possibility of the moss growing backwards as well and covering the mesh. Though, I'm not sure that would happen.

Thanks about the tattoos. The sleeve is far from finished but since its appropriately themed I thought I would share.

Update: Well, the place I ordered the moss from didn't have the amount of taiwan I wanted, so I ended up getting a refund.

This morning I went on the hunt for more taiwan moss, and the only reasonable amount I could find was a mixture of taiwan with random java thrown in. Paid about $10 more for it, but I guess thats ok.

Just waiting for the plants to come in so I can get some progress going, everything else is sitting here prepared!

I finally received the moss, nana petite and some mini cholla. I stuffed the mesh with moss, tons of it. Sewed it up, and suctioned it to the glass.

Then, I filled the bottom with some rinsed fluval stratum. Im digging the black.

Cholla isn't waterlogged yet, so I have it weighted down with some stem weights until it stays down on its own. Tied petite to one. Wow. Im running out of room!

I decided I wanted a parva forest, so I bought two bunches from the SnS, but I dont know if they will all fit! Lol.

Also upgrading the light. It isn't the greatest plant growing light. I got a DIY PAR meter from Hoppy and it only read 6 PAR near the petite

Just planted some C. parva in the back of the tank. Will get pics up ASAP. The fluval stratum was incredibly light, much lighter than I expected. Ugh. It was a pain trying to get the tiny C. parva to stay down with such light substrate :|

Great looking tank so far! The mini cholla looks nice! Where'd you get the mesh for the walls? I want to do one for my 5 gallon tank that im setting up but I don't know where I could find it!

Hey Gus,

I got the mesh at Walmart, in the craft section where the needlepoint stuff is. It's the blank pieces that come in a 6 pack for a few dollars.

Hey all, time for an update.

I replaced the LED that came with the spec with the Fluval Mini CFL. Awesome light that is perfect for this tank!!

Also transfered over some dwarf water lettuce I got from a RAOK a month or so ago. Its multiplied like crazy in my frog tank, and thought my shrimps would appreciate some

And here is the PFR and my moss walls slowly starting to fill out!

Nice tank. Nice ink. I hated the outlines waiting for my skin to heal before my artist could start working on it again. If only I could bear 6+ hours of needles in one session!

Some more updates. Heres a feeding frenzy only seconds after dropping in some Mosura CRS

The above shot doesnt show the growth well, but the moss is growing insane, and the dwarf water lettuce is totally taking over the surface! I've had to transfer handfuls to other tanks several times already:
