Got my substrate in. 2 bags of black ECO Complete and 1 bag of Onyx sand on top. Got some nice rocks to go with the Driftwood. Decided to go with an Aqueon Filter. It has performed well on my other tank.

Need to learn more about plant health. Some of the crypts melted. Some of the leaves look dead. Is this normal for the initial planting?

When I initially planted I trimmed the roots to be 1 inch long. I read somewhere to do that. Hopefully that was correct.
A number of the crypts melted. I read that is common and they may come back. However, currently I am having issues with holes in the leaves and then dissolving from there. Does this indicate a Potassium issue? If so, how much do you increase the dose by? XX percent? For the smaller swords, there are places where it looks like they are cut. Is this the "brittle" that people talk about? What nutrient does this tie too? Some of the leaves of the plants are turning under. Calcium issue? How much to increase the dose? Thanks Frank |

Got in my shrimp and crabs yesterday. Looks like I had some casualties overnight. Cross your fingers that enough live to start a population. This is my last attempt to have shrimp in this tank.

I believe so. I used a filter from an established tank. I also used stability for 7 days. Last time I tested there was zero ammonia and nitrite and low level nitrate.

It's hard to say if it's fully cycled even if you used an additive and media from another filter. Were the shrimp acclimated? It's possible they are in shock.

I didn't drip acclimate. I added 1/4-1/2 cup of tank water every 10 minutes for 40 minutes before adding them to my tank. The bag with the shrimp was in the water the whole time.
What's odd is that they seem to die at night. |
