ADA 60f - flip's rock madness

so ive been a long time lurker of the forums and always loved how people's tanks turn out and i must admit, ive always been jealous of them.

ive had tanks before but could never quite get the hang of it. so after reading and reading and looking at other people's tanks, i finally pulled the trigger and wanted to do one of my own.

i even went and looked at how people put together their own stands together so this is my post for my entire project from a diy stand to my very first ADA tank.

so after weeks of deciding what size tank to get, i finally decided on an ADA 60f. I like the look of the shallow tank alot and think i could get a whole lot done in there while maintaining a small volume size. so after ordering the tank and other supplies, i got to work on the stand to help me kill time whilst waiting for my new arrival.

unfortunately, i didnt take much pictures while making the stand (and its still a work in progress) ill post up what i have.

this is the frame work getting completed. this is the 2nd try at getting this part done. i spent a whole day with my buddy making it but it turned out horrible and i ended up scrapping the 1st attempt. then after a night of sleep, woke up the next day and decided to try again.

this is what i ended up with.

i have yet to attach the back and sides as well as figure out how to do the front. either to have the whole front piece as just one giant door (which im unsure of how to attach the hinges or at least know what type to buy) or cut out a hole for a door (which im also unsure of how to do). bare in mind i have no previous woodworking and this is my very first diy attempt.

after about a couple days waiting for my arrival. i wake up to a doorbell and see the ups guy driving off like he owed me money or something and trying to get away as fast as he can. i see this at my doorstep.

i like how the bottom box says top load only but he still put something on top of it.

cut to me bringing it inside and opening up my goodies.

my ADA 60f and archaea 36w light.

my seiryuu stones, ada mat, and at the bottom is my aquasoil 9l bag.

needless to say, i dont want to go into work today so that i can complete my stand and get this tank going, but if there is one thing i learned is that patience is the key to getting a good tank going.

also on the horizon is co2 equipment, eheim 2215 and some lily pipes and some plants (of which i have an idea of what i want, just need to do a little more research).

*edit* i probably put this in the wrong spot as ive always just liked looking at the nano section. so if this belongs in the journal section (of which i jus remembered) if the mods could put this in the right spot, itd be much appreciated.

Just a small update on the stand.

after alot of headache and trial and error. got the sides on, the door and totally forgot about placing a floor on the inside of the tank so had to do that too. but finally got it all together and threw on some stain.

it aint pretty but i can say that i built it.

its been awhile since i've updated this thread. its because i was only paying for this tank with tips that i got during work (work at the front desk of a hotel) that way i wouldnt really rush through things.

anyways, ive since done 2 rescapes since my initial one and i wish i had pictures of the earlier setup or even the dsm period i had going on.

my tank as it looks now

ive since switched the lighting from the archaea to the finnex ray 2 24" which is a huge improvement in lighting. that light is just all kinds of awesome.

secondly ive added some yellow neos to my tank courtesy of idex here at the forums. shrimp came in looking great and barely a month in, ive got a shrimp thats berried!!!

as far as plants go, most of them come from barthog, hc from nilocg and there was some riccia courtesy of h4n but ive since removed it for the time being. i do plan on putting it back, i just dont know where.

used an old bracket and chain to hang up my finnex light. im thinking its a little too high and may add more chain links to lower it some.
