Rock Identification

I picked up a few rocks from my local landscaping company. No reaction to API Nitrate #2 solution. I broke them up to the size I want and bleached them in very hot water. Then washed and scrubbed them with clean water. Ill soak them in water with 10ml of Prime before I use them but I need help identifying them. I believe its a granite or slate. When braking them the rock usually split with the grain.

Phyllite? I think most will call it slate though. I might be completely wrong, just trying to help

Granite doesn't usually have grain that it will break along.

My vote would be slate or something else.

Either way it looks safe to me.

Thanks everyone! I think its slate too especially that it breaks the way it does.
