How on earth do you get the nylon washer out of the CGA nut?

Hi all,

Every time I change my CO2 cylinder, it takes me like 30 minutes to slowly manuever the nylon washer out of the CGA nut. Is it really this annoying and time consuming every time? I feel like I also may be damaging the nut a little bit because I have to use sharp tools to try and pry the washer out.

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks,
VeeSe

edit: And as soon as I make this post and go to try again, it comes out in 2 minutes =P

How many times have you used the washer? Sometimes, you can get it to unscrew out of the threads of the nut. Sometimes you can push the nut back forcing the washer out.

Are you using the washer that has the little nubs on the outside?

Just one use per washer. I tried pushing the nut back but it wouldn't go back until the washer was out. Maybe I'll try with more force next time.

I'm not sure what you mean (so I'm probably not). It's just the regular white washer with nothing special on the edges. They provide one when I get my tank refilled and I use that one.

I've gotten washers with little plastic "spikes" on the outside. They told me they help it "stay in place" obvious rookie mistake - those were even harder to get out. Lucky you get yours for free.. they charge me .86 for those washers.

That depends... I probably pay more than $0.86 more than you for my tank refill ($13 for 5 lb refill), so you could argue that it's "built in" to the refill price.

I just tap the bushing with a wrench or hammer lightly to pop the washer out

I just turn the CGA and the washer is slowly pushed out.

wedge a small screw driver in the hole in the washer. push up on it. rotate the nut counter clockwise. washer will unscrew itself.

Lose those washers and replace with a permaseal. No more dealing with that idiotic washer.

I have a permaseal. It doesn't seal as well or as easily as the nylon washer in my experience.

Interesting. I've been using permaseals for years and never had a problem.
