NY state rocks. Safe?


Hi

I got this rocks in upstate new york. They are from a friend's cabin area.
Are they safe for my aquarium?

(obviously I will boil and clean them)

They should be fine. Maybe soak them in bleach then boil.

a good thing would be advising why...

to clarify, some people have boiled and baked rocks and had them explode. air pockets in the stone, however, I have never had that issue. you can also use hot water and a brush and just scrub them good.

As to the boiling, its been documented to happen

if you boil them put the into cool water before you turn them on. You need to bring them up to temperature. A cold rock going into boiling water causes the issues.
