Question

Power Men (AquaticMagic?) Lily Pipes

I've just purchased a 13mm set of Power Men Lily Pipes (someone in a thread said it's the same thing as AquaticMagic).
After taking a close look at the intake slits, they appear to be very thin.
Does anyone know if these openings are too thin, and would cause premature wear on my Eheim canister filter? Has anyone used these pipes or had a problem with them?

I've never used lilly pipes but that doesn't look like near enough or big enough slits to me, just looking at it I would guess that your gph is half of what it should be and if that's the case it will cause premature failure.

I have two sets of these. One used on an Eheim 2213 and the other on a Rena XP2. Both filters are running fine after two years on the pipes. They do appear to be small but I do find occasional shrimp babies in the filter come cleaning time.

Rev, are you sure it's the same kind? While searching, I've seen a few different types of Power Men pipes with different slit appearances. Do your slits look like these?

No... Mine look a lot like your first pic and it has a "PM Powerman" Logo behind where the suction cups go.

Ok, yeah, mine are the same then! I'm running a 2213 and just wanted to make sure this wasn't a defect.
Thanks for the heads up Rev.

My set works well, but I would say the slits are a bit thin. The pump sucks air at times due to too much back pressure from trying to get enough water in the intake. I used a fille and widened the slits a bit, and that seemed to have helped quite a bit. If you try that, be very careful not to break the glass or cut yourself.

Nice, I'd love to do that.
What type of file will fit these tiny slots? They are already so delicate.

I just used the edge of a regular metal file, something like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/12-inch...set-93340.html. I'm sure a needle file or similar would have been more appropriate, but I just grabbed what I had in the garage.

Sweet, thanks for the tip! Gonna make these slits large, I don't need flow issues.
