Propagation of HC
Hey there - tried to search but could not find a specific answer to my simple question. It is also tough since most people refer to HC as "HC" which makes it not come up in the search function.
I am currently working on a foreground of Hemianthus callitrichoides (HC) in my aquarium. In regards to the propagation of the plant to help it spread - at what height would you trim the plant? And can the clippings that lack roots be planted with success? As in - is the appropriate method of propagation of HC to clip and replant the stems? Thanks -Andrew Couple pictures for reference of the tallest section of HC. It is about 1/2" or 13ish mm high. ![]()

You can trim it all the way down to the substrate. You can replant the tops. It's a pain but it works well. It's like any other stem plant, chop the top and replant, the bottom will grow back.

I'd definitely start trimming it now. And if it gets too thick, you can cut small patches of it out/rip small patches up and replant.

My rule of thumb for HC: When it seems like it's getting too thick? It's too thick. When it seems too tall? Definitely trim it.
I've never regretted a thinning or trimming in the proper environment.
